Pack 357 worked hard on Veteran's Day to plant over a dozen trees at one of Huntsville's Elementary Schools - Whitesburg Elementary. The school had no shade on their primary playground.
Thomas Dunn (Pack 357 alumni) now with Boy Scout Troop 70 led this community service project. He obtained a $500 grant, bought the trees, got the mulch and compost, and arranged for the city to pre-dig the holes!
The pack along with Thomas Dunn and some help from other Troop 70 members provided the boy power for this project. They spent 3 hours working hard to get all the trees planted, composted, and mulched.

In order to receive the National Summertime Award, a Pack needs to participate in at least three activities during the summer.
In June, the pack gathered for a short hike learning about some local history. The boys picked buckets of blackberries and toured a Native American farmhouse on Redstone Arsenal. See photos here.
In July, the boys participated in a five mile hike at Camp Comer in Mentone, AL. Several new Tiger cubs joined some seasoned cubs for an adventure along the trail.
Bobcat, racoon, and deer tracks were spotted along with a black racer snake! Several caves and an old girl's school house were also explored along the way. The six scouts earned the Thunderbird Patch for enduring the long hike. Check out the tired scouts here.
The third event, in August, was a fishing trip to Lake Wilson. The boys spent a morning baiting hooks, casting lines, and reeling in lots of fish. Check out the fishing photos here.

Cub Master, Ken Dunn, and his son traveled to our country's capital to participate in a parade celebrating 100 Years of Scouting! The scorching heat did not keep our local scouts from enjoying the sights of DC.

On Saturday July 17, 2010 six Pack 357 Cub Scouts earned the Thunderbird Patch for hiking 5 miles along the Thunderbird Trail at Camp Comer. Two brand new Tiger Cubs hiked along with two Wolf Cubs and two Webelos. The boys located bobcat, racoon, and deer tracks. They cooled off at the Rattlesnake Den and Icebox Cave. The also ate some wild blueberries along the way. A black racer snake crossed the trail with only a quarter mile to go.
The boys capped off the afternoon with watermelon, hot dogs, and some ice cold drinks.

His banana snack car stood out from the crowd with it's organic material glued on top - raisins! Congatulations to Austin and all the other scouts who placed in the various pinewood derby competitions.

Tiger Cubs are first graders. As soon as your child graduates from kindergarten, they are eligible to join cub scouts. Stop by the Talakto District office at the scout store on Drake Ave to join.
Do your best!
